Nurturing You So You Can Grow Towards Your Potential
Welcome, and thank you for visiting Pagoda Counselling.
My name is Nina R Turner and I am a counsellor and psychotherapist in Lincolnshire, Bath and Online.
Having gained life experience across academic, private, and public sector management roles, life also passed through being a carer for a loved one; surviving domestic abuse; being diagnosed with a life-limiting heart condition; and learning to survive. It is said you cannot possibly lead another beyond a point you have reached. My experience, combined with my counselling qualification & further qualifications of BSocSci (hons) in Criminology & Social Policy & Preparing to Teach in Lifelong Learning (PTLLS), helps me truly communicate & empathise with Clients & their experiences. Feedback has been that I nurture & propel Clients along on a wave of warmth. Clients give positive feedback, achieving what they seek.
Being a fully qualified Counsellor, having qualified with Distinction after study with a British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) Organisational Member, Ridgeway College in Lincoln to achieve the Advanced Diploma in Counselling Skills & Theory (Level 5), Dip RCCST, as recognised by Unifaculty London (School of Psychology) in 2016.
My practice is in line with the high ethical standards required by professional bodies such as the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) plus the International Society of Psychotherapy & Counselling (ISPC).
I called my practice Pagoda Counselling as I was inspired by the architectural belief that it was such a safe structure with its strong central core which could withstand an earthquake - I liken building your central core of self-belief, esteem, confidence & value as helping you to withstand your life's earthquakes...
As an Integrative Person-Centred Counsellor, you can expect me to try to make you feel valued as a person and not be judgmental, demonstrating empathy to help you feel heard and understood. This process encourages you to reflect on what troubles you, explore alternative ways of viewing your situation, and develop new approaches and skills to better manage your challenges, ultimately feeling emotionally happier.
The Client had lived with depression for years and has previously received CBT for depression which continued. The original trigger was uncovered through an Integrative Person-Centred approach and we then worked on correcting distortions of belief & building their self-esteem, worth, value & confidence.
I draw upon a proven toolbox of therapeutic approaches, all of which will be discussed with you in advance to ensure your agreement and understanding of their intended benefits. While these approaches are too numerous to list here, I offer a free introductory telephone session to discuss your concerns and potential therapeutic methods. You can also read more on My Approach here.
Integrative Person-Centred Counselling has evolved, reflecting the modern world’s need to find solutions as promptly as possible. Hence working with a therapeutic toolbox of proven ‘What Works’
approaches has been developed.
Other examples of positive outcomes include Neurodiverse Clients (Dyslexia, Autism Spectrum, ADHD) who sought to learn better coping strategies which minimised felt distress and improved confidence, resilience to live successfully in a non-neurodiverse world.
I am focused on nurturing my Clients to overcome what has troubled them & reach forward to achieving their potential, using a proven toolbox of 'what works'. I aim to use 'plain speaking' as this isn't an academic essay - you know I am qualified so it's about whether we feel we can work together.
The Counsellor & Client relationship treats you, 'Client' as an equal, capable person who is seeking to engage the expertise of another to help resolve unhelpful beliefs & thoughts much as you may seek to hire a professional to assist, for example with an electrical or plumbing issue at home or a garage to resolve why a car makes a rattling noise.
If we agree to proceed, we will commit to weekly sessions, working through your concerns in a supportive environment. Here, you can test and develop new skills until you feel ready to spread your wings, so to speak.
Client had experienced trauma plus had been diagnosed with a life-changing chronic illness. Using the Integrative Person-Centred toolbox, we diminished the impact of the trauma, challenged unhelpful beliefs then nurtured to feel safe & increased their self-esteem, worth & resilience.
The type of issues brought to sessions by clients include:
Clients bring their own unique concerns to Counselling Sessions which are tailored to their needs.
Clients achieve outcomes such as:
Most often, Clients learn to separate what they have been told by others from what they actually believe; Clients learn to decide if the opinion of others matters, is a positive or negative influence to be accepted or avoided, discounted & identify what is actually important to them...
